Back-to-School Clothes Shopping

My daughter and I did some back to school clothes shopping online yesterday.

We went through Upromise as our shopping portal, and went to American Eagle and Wet Seal.
2% of the purchase from both of those will go into my children's Upromise accounts. We were able to find discount codes at RetailMeNot.com.

At RetailMeNot, you type in the website you want, and a list will come up of known discount codes. People share the codes and then other website users share whether it worked for them.

We were able to get 15% off at American Eagle, and bought enough to qualify for free shipping.
American Eagle also offered a promotion that gave double-credits for jeans purchased on their "All-Access Pass" program, so the 2 pairs of jeans we bought will qualify us for a 20% discount on our next purchase.

For Wet Seal, we found a free shipping code. Upromise is also having a promotion too - you can get a $10 Target Gift Card (sent automatically to you in the mail) when you make 3 online purchases now through July 31st, using Upromise as your shopping portal.

So we are up to 2. We're not done with all the back to school shopping, so it will be pretty easy to qualify for the promotion.

Joining Upromise was one of the best decisions I've ever made. Quite a few grocery items also qualify for a percentage to go into the Upromise account, and with online shopping and even dining, it can really add up.

Snellville Back to School Supplies Price Comparisons

The back to school line up....

I browsed over the back to school posts and figured out where each item can be purchased at the lowest price. Of course, it would be crazy to drive all over town to grab these deals...if you were making a special trip to do so...but, if you print out this list and keep it with you, you will know which deals you can grab when you are nearby these stores.

If you just want a quick list to cut and paste and print out to take with you, scroll down to the purple text!

For an acrylic ruler, erasers that fit on the end of the pencil, and paper folders, you can't beat Office Depot's penny sale. Read here for specifics and limits

CRAYONS:

For Crayola Crayons, Wal-Mart has the lowest price at .22 cents.

COMPOSITION BOOKS:

For Composition Books, Rite-Aid appears to have the lowest price, .50 cents for a Mead brand composition book. Walgreen's is selling Penway brand for .75 cents.

SPIRAL NOTEBOOKS:

Walmart has the lowest price, with a 70 sheet spiral notebook for .05
There doesn't appear to be a minimum...you can't beat anything made of paper for a nickel.

PORTFOLIOS/FOLDERS:

Walgreen's has a 2 pocket folder with prongs for .13 cents, however, there is a limit of 8 at this price. If you pay 2 cents more each at Walmart you can buy as many as you want.
Rite Aid has them for .99 cents each...nope, not a deal there.

GLUE:

For the liquid Elmer's glue in the 4 ounce bottle, Walmart has it at .22 cents. Walgreens has it at .39 cents, but there is a limit of 3 at Walgreen's.

For Elmer's Glue Sticks, same story. Walmart at .22 cents, Walgreens for .39 cents, limit of 3.

MARKERS:

Sharpie Permanent Markers, .50 at Walgreens with Walgreen in-store coupon, limit 4
(PS I just found out Sharpie Markers are not hazardous - even though they sure seem like they would be) Still, the Crayola Markers, .99 at Walgreen's, are my favorite type of markers for my kids. Also find Mark It Markers at Rite Aid, 3.99

MECHANICAL PENCILS:

Walgreen's offers the PaperMate brand mechanical pencils in a 5-10 pack for .39 cents.
10 pack mechanical pencils at Walmart for 1.82 (Bic brand)

PENS:
Walgreens is the clear winner here, with a 10 pack of PaperMate pens for .39 cents ...use coupon found in the in-store circular.

KLEENEX:

For Kleenex brand, K-Martso far seems to have the lowest price at 1.25 per box. Runner up is Rite Aid at 1.50 per box, then it's Walgreen's has Kleenex for 1.66 per box. If some manufacturer's coupons for Kleenex come out, that might make the grocery store prices the best. I know Scotties brand just issued a coupon in yesterday's Sunday paper. When the coupon is doubled it can be a great deal.

A NOTE ABOUT KROGER:
They are advertising their 10 for $10 back to school list like it's fantastic deals...as you can see by comparing to the prices on this page, $1 for most of the back to school shopping items is NOT a good deal. This is another example of why it pays to compare prices. I've just spent 10 minutes comparing but I have clearly saved a lot of money by doing it.

So, here is my shopping list of the lowest prices I have found so far:

Office Depot
Protractor, lmt 5, a penny
Eraser Caps, limit 5, a penny
2 pack paper folders, limit 20, penny each
acrylic ruler, .01 limit 5, a penny each

Walgreens:
10 pack Papermate pens, limit of 4, .39 cents with in store coupon
Mechanical Pencil pack, papermate, .39 cents with in store coupon
Sharpie Permanent Marker, .50 limit 4 with in store coupon

Walmart:
70 sheet spiral notebook, .05 cents
2 pkt portfolio w/ prongs .15 cents
2 pack elmer's glue sticks, .22 cents
24 pack Crayola crayons .22 cents

Rite Aid:
Mead Composition Book, .50 cents

Back To School Deals: Rite-Aid Pharmacy

In Snellville, Rite Aid pharmacy is located at the corner of Dogwood Road and Scenic Highway. It used to be the Eckerd. The other Rite Aid location near Snellville is at the corner of Rosebud Road and US78.

Sale Dates: July 13-July 17

Bic Mark It Markers in 12 pack: 3.99

Mead Portfolios .99 cents (excludes Five-Star Brand)

Elmer's Glue or School Glue, 4 ounce, .25 cents each ... actually it's listed as 4 for $1, and some of these drug stores do require you to get the quantity to get that price.

Crayola 24 pack Crayons, .44 cents each
... actually it's listed as 4 for $1, and some of these drug stores do require you to get the quantity to get that price.

Mead Composition Book, .50 cents

Paper Mate Grip Pens in an 8 pack, .50 cents

22"x28" Posterboard, .50 (it is always a good idea to stock up on several sheets of this and store it away, because at 10 minutes past their bedtime, they will inform you that posterboard is supposed to be brought in the next day or they will get detention).

Kleenex, 1.50

See page 8 of their in-store circular for more specials.

Back to School Deals: Walgreens 7/13-7/19

Walgreens is offering:

Backpacks - buy one at 9.99, get 1 free
(this is my least favorite type of BOGO...because you can't just buy one at half price, you have to buy at least one at full price. Works out the same if you want/need to get two, but if you just want one, it's not so special. But 9.99 is not bad for a backpack, not bad at all!

Kleenex, 3 for $5 (ie 1.66 each)
I don't know what it is about the Gwinnett County School System - they always have a severe need for Kleenex. Every year it's on the list. I wonder why this can't just be put into the budget. The kids hate lugging pointy cornered boxes of Kleenex into school.

Paper Mate Pens or Pencils
10 pack pens, or 5-10 packs of mechanical pencils
.39 cents each, with the coupon that is in the Walgreen's sales flyer (sales circular will be at the front of the store free for the taking) Limit 3

Sharpie Permanent Markers, 2 for $1 (.50 cents each) Limit 4.
Use coupon in the Walgreen's sale circular at the front of the store.

2-Pocket Folders with Prongs
8 for $1 (13 cents each), Limit 8
Use the coupon located in the circular at the front of the store
Gotta have the kind with the prongs usually, and it's not fun to wade through the last minute back to school crowds WalMart at 1:45 am, flipping through the pile of folders to find some that have PRONGS...ugh! So these have the PRONGS. Mental note to get these.

Mini Highlighter (very cute)
Regular 40 cents, now 19 cents, with coupon you can find at the front of the store in the flyer.
Limit 6 (this would be nice for Christmas stockings too...kids just love highlighters anyway)

Dividers or Sheet Protectors (Corner Office ... store brand)
.39 cents each. 5 packs of tab dividers or 10 packs of the sheet protectors. Limit 6.
No coupon necessary.

Crayola Markers .99
Fine tip or Broad, assorted colors, 10 packs
No coupon necessary

Pencils by Penway in 24 pack, #2 pencils .50 cents
or Colored pencils in a 12 pack, .50 cents
No coupon needed
Limit 4

Composition Book with 100 sheets, penway brand Limit 4,
.79 cents
No coupon needed

Elmer's Glue 4 ounce .39 cents - limit 3

Elmer's School Glue Sticks .39 cents - limit 3

Fiskar's Scissors, pointed or blunt style, .99 cents, limit 3
